Managed Voice

Bring business calling into Teams. Plan numbers, call routing, devices, network readiness and the support arrangements your team needs.

Understanding the solution

Business calling in Microsoft Teams combines user telephony with a connection to the public telephone network. A managed arrangement should make responsibility explicit across Microsoft, the carrier, your administrators and any delivery partner. Digital Cloud can define a suitable implementation and operating scope around your calling requirements.

Business telephony involves more than enabling calls. Number management, queues, routing, devices and support must work together so customers can reach the appropriate team consistently.

Capabilities and scope

Select PSTN connectivity

Compare Microsoft Calling Plans, Operator Connect and Direct Routing against country availability, existing contracts and number requirements. Direct Routing introduces a certified session border controller and associated operational dependencies.

Design the caller journey

Document direct numbers, auto attendants, call queues, opening hours and overflow destinations. Include reception, delegates, shared devices and emergency-calling requirements so the design covers more than individual outbound calls.

Agree ongoing responsibilities

Define who changes routing, manages users, investigates quality problems and contacts the carrier. Set the support window, escalation path and reporting arrangements explicitly; these do not follow automatically from a Teams Phone license.

A practical example

A reception queue routes calls to available staff, then to an agreed overflow destination. The pilot checks transfers, caller ID and after-hours behavior before numbers move.

What your project can deliver

  • Number inventory and proposed call-flow diagrams
  • Connectivity, licensing and migration dependencies
  • Responsibility matrix and acceptance call scenarios

The final deliverables, licensing and responsibilities are agreed for your environment before implementation.

Requirements and considerations

Review carriers, existing numbers, network quality, devices and emergency-calling requirements. Plan porting and continuity carefully; available calling options and regional rules must be confirmed.

Project priorities

  1. Call routing

  2. Number porting

  3. Service continuity

We begin with a conversation about the task, the people involved and the systems already in place. Together we identify what a useful result would look like and which dependencies need attention first. The agreed proposal sets the delivery boundaries, responsibilities and acceptance criteria.

Project phaseWhat happens
01Define the designTranslate the requirements into a practical design. Confirm product choices, interfaces, permissions and the responsibilities needed to operate the solution.
02Deliver in stagesConfigure or implement the agreed scope, test representative workflows and resolve material issues. Plan user communication and any controlled transition from existing systems.
03Prepare for ongoing operationConfirm acceptance, document the relevant configuration and prepare the people responsible for daily use. Define maintenance and support arrangements before handover.

Questions before you start

Can we keep existing numbers?

Portability depends on carrier, number type and location. Validate ownership and porting requirements before setting a migration date or terminating the existing service.

What determines the cost and schedule?

The starting environment, integrations, user groups and agreed outputs determine the effort. We confirm scope and commercial terms before work begins. Software licenses, infrastructure consumption and ongoing support may be separate items.

What will we receive?

The proposal identifies the deliverables: these may include findings, a prioritized roadmap, a tested configuration, a prototype, documentation or training. We agree what is included and how completion will be assessed.

Can this work with our existing systems?

We review the actual applications, data sources and access requirements before recommending an integration. Dependencies and compatibility limits are recorded so the delivery plan reflects your environment.

What happens after the initial work?

You can use the findings to guide your own team or discuss a follow-on phase. Any maintenance, monitoring or support includes separately agreed service hours, responsibilities and response targets.
